Best and worst cryptocurrencies: how to read a ranking without buying the hype

Five long videos and two Shorts where Cripto Adicto ranks coins from best to worst, with the risks up front. Before you hit play, keep one idea in mind, because it holds this whole section together: a ranking is only as good as its criteria. Below you'll find those criteria, the red flags and the fact-checked story of the bank that “predicts a 25x”. His videos are in Spanish, and the rules mentioned here are the ones that apply if you live in Spain or elsewhere in the EU.

The channel's rankings at a glance

The channel has five long-form rankings, and each one answers a different question. Know which one before drawing conclusions: looking for the coins with the strongest fundamentals is not the same as hunting mid-caps with room to run, and neither is the same as calling out the ones that smell like a scam.

As of October 2026, the most watched of the five is the general top 5. It's a good place to start: at 0:47 there's a segment on the 2026 market context that explains why the order isn't random, and at the end he adds an extra coin that he himself labels a high-risk bet. The fact that he labels it that way tells you something about the channel's tone.

Why a top 5 is not a shopping list

“Hay más de 20.000 criptomonedas y el 95% van a desaparecer.” (“There are more than 20,000 cryptocurrencies and 95% of them will disappear.”)

— Cripto Adicto, description of “Las 5 MEJORES criptomonedas para 2026”

If you take that line seriously, and you should, the conclusion is uncomfortable: any short list is a bet on which projects will survive, not a catalog of safe products. Even sitting at the very top doesn't protect you. Terra (LUNA) was one of the ten largest cryptocurrencies before May 2022. Starting on May 9, its stablecoin, UST, lost its dollar peg, and in a single week almost $45 billion in market value vanished. LUNA, which had traded above $119 at its peak, ended up at virtually zero.

Here's a detail almost nobody knows. In the European Union, the MiCA regulation requires a crypto-asset's white paper to carry specific warnings: that it may lose its value in part or in full, that it may not be liquid and that it isn't covered by investor compensation or deposit guarantee schemes. And it bans the white paper from making claims about the coin's future value. The official document of a project cannot promise you a 10x. The predictions you see come from outside (analysts, banks, content creators), and you should read them for what they are: opinions built on assumptions.

“This crypto-asset white paper has not been approved by any competent authority in any Member State of the European Union. The offeror of the crypto-asset is solely responsible for the content of this crypto-asset white paper.”

— Regulation (EU) 2023/1114 (MiCA), Article 6(3): mandatory statement on the first page

That sentence appears on the first page of every white paper notified in the EU, and it sums up the spirit of this section. Nobody has vetted the project for you. Not Spain's securities regulator, the CNMV, which points out that receiving a white paper notification does not mean approving its content. Not a YouTuber. Not a bank.

The checklist: eight filters for any ranking

These are the eight filters worth running on any coin that shows up in a top list, wherever it comes from, the channel's own lists included. You don't need to be an analyst. You need patience, a couple of hours per project and a willingness to argue with yourself.

  1. 01

    Fundamentals: what problem it solves

Explain it in one sentence without using the words “revolution” or “ecosystem”. If you can't, you don't yet know what you're buying. The control question: would anyone need this network if its token disappeared tomorrow?

  2. 02

    Real usage and revenue

Look for activity that doesn't depend on speculation: fees paid by real users, named customers, usage that holds up when the price drops. A project with people paying to use it survives a bear market better than one whose only asset is a social media community.

  3. 03

    Tokenomics and unlocks

Compare the current market cap with the fully diluted value (price times maximum supply). If only a small share of the total is circulating today, scheduled unlocks for the team and early investors can add selling pressure for years. Check the calendar before you buy, not after.

  4. 04

    Liquidity

Could you sell tomorrow without crashing the price? Check how many authorized platforms list it and how deep the order book is. European supervisors put it in writing: you may not be able to sell at the price or the time you want.

  5. 05

    Regulatory risk

Check whether it has a notified white paper and whether the platform you buy it on is authorized. In January 2025, ESMA told providers to stop facilitating purchases of stablecoins that didn't comply with MiCA, allowing sell-only access until the end of the first quarter. A token can become hard to buy in the EU from one month to the next.

  6. 06

    Team and foundation

Are there identifiable people who answer for it if something goes wrong? A foundation with public accounts? Anonymity isn't a scam in itself (nobody knows who Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin's creator, really is), but in a small project it multiplies the risk.

  7. 07

    Institutional backing

A bank or fund using a network is a signal, not a guarantee. Ask what exactly they use: the technology, the token or just a pilot? Plenty of loudly announced “partnerships” are proofs of concept that never reach production.

  8. 08

    Narrative risk

AI, metaverse, memecoins, tokenization: trends lift everything they touch and, when they turn, they punish whatever had nothing underneath. If the only argument is the label, the price depends on the trend lasting.

What he says he looks at (in his own descriptions)

You don't have to guess Cripto Adicto's criteria, because he writes them down in his video descriptions. This is what they say, translated and with nothing added:

VideoStated criterionRisk he acknowledges
The 5 best for 2026Fundamentals, institutional backing and technology“Honest analysis, risks included. Not selling you dreams.”
The 3 best altcoinsMid-cap size and “something REAL working”Not the biggest or the safest
The 5 best AI cryptosSomething actually working, not just the labelThat 95% of “AI” coins are worthless
The 3 worstScam signals, dangerous tokenomics and extreme riskThe mistakes to avoid so you don't fall for scams
The best for the next cycleWhat the bank said, what it's based on and which institutions use it“With the risks up front, no hype”

Notice the pattern. The altcoin list deliberately leaves out the biggest names because it's looking for room to grow, and that means more volatility: he warns himself that they are “not the biggest or the safest”. In the chapter on his analysis criteria (at 0:20) he explains how he filtered before naming anything. Watch that part even if you don't care about the result, because it's the part you can reuse on any other coin.

AI cryptos: why “95% of them are hype”

The line is his, and so is the diagnosis: there are more than 900 cryptocurrencies marketing themselves as “artificial intelligence” coins and, in his words, they “slap the AI label on the name and start selling”. In the video he ranks the five he considers serious as the five pieces AI needs in order to exist, and number 1 is the one people call “the Bitcoin of AI”.

To separate a real project from a label, ask three questions. What does the token do inside the product? If the answer is “governance” and little else, the token doesn't capture the value of the business. Who pays? A compute or data marketplace needs customers paying to use it, not just users collecting rewards. What happens if AI stops being the hot topic? If the project only makes sense with headlines, you know which group it belongs to.

If you only have a minute, the Short sums up the idea in vertical format. Treat it as an appetizer, not a substitute for the long video: sixty seconds leaves no room for the risk section, and in this sector the risks are half the story.

The worst coins: red flags that keep coming back

The video on the three worst cryptocurrencies of 2026 goes the other way: altcoins with “scam signals, dangerous tokenomics and extreme risk”. The names are in the video, one per chapter. Here's the pattern, which you should learn to spot on your own because the list of bad projects refreshes every few months.

  • Promised returns, fixed or “guaranteed”. Spain's securities regulator, the CNMV, says it bluntly in its guide to unauthorized investment firms: return and risk go hand in hand, so distrust any offer that promises high returns with no risk.
  • Rush. Countdowns, presales that “end today”, bonuses for joining right now. Urgency is the favorite tool of anyone who doesn't want you to think twice.
  • Concentrated supply: a handful of wallets holding much of the supply, with big unlocks coming up.
  • A product that never ships. Beautiful roadmaps, dates that keep slipping and no usage metrics.
  • Paid promotion on social media. The joint warning from Europe's financial supervisors (EBA, EIOPA and ESMA) reminds you that influencers can be incentivized to promote certain crypto-assets.
  • Toy liquidity: listed on one or two little-known platforms, with volume vanishing as soon as the price drops.
  • Nobody answers for it. An unidentified team, no white paper, or one packed with price promises, which is exactly what MiCA bans in the EU.

The bank that “predicts a 25x”: what Standard Chartered actually published

The flashiest title in this section is also the easiest one to check, and we checked it: the bank is Standard Chartered and the coin is Chainlink (LINK). On August 10, 2026, Geoff Kendrick, the bank's global head of digital assets research, published a note titled “Chainlink – Owning the rails”. LINK was trading at around $8 that day, and the note's end-2030 target is $200. That's where the 25x comes from.

End ofStandard Chartered's LINK target (US dollars)
202613
202741
202882
2029133
2030200
Targets published by the bank on August 10, 2026. They are the bank's forecasts, not ours, and they are not a buy recommendation.

What is it based on? Tokenization. The note projects tokenized assets on public blockchains growing from about $340 billion to $4 trillion by the end of 2028, and $2.7 trillion deployed in decentralized finance (DeFi) by the end of 2030. Chainlink sells outside data to blockchains (the well-known oracles) plus connections between chains, so the bank expects its fees to grow about 25-fold as well by 2030. According to the note, it currently secures around 70% of the DeFi value that depends on oracles, and it lists Swift, DTCC, Euroclear and JPMorgan among its users.

Now the part almost nobody mentions: the bank lists the risks itself. Institutional tokenization moving slower than expected, with pilots that never reach production; competition from specialist providers in each product category; and technical or configuration failures that damage confidence in the platform.

And one more fact for perspective. This is the same bank that on December 9, 2025 halved its end-2025 bitcoin target, from $200,000 to $100,000, and in February 2026 cut its end-2026 target to $100,000, down from an original $300,000. We're not pointing this out to mock anyone. We're pointing it out because a price target is a scenario built on assumptions, and assumptions change. If the pace of tokenization changes, so does the $200.

Chapters (5)

The video spends a chapter on the Chainlink paradox (at 0:46) and another on institutional money (5:57). Watch it with the table above next to you and one question in mind: what has to go right for this to happen, and how much of that depends on Chainlink versus on banks moving fast?

How much to put in and how to spread it (no personal advice)

You won't find portfolio percentages here, because they depend on your situation and we don't know it. What we can give you is the math and the common-sense rules that regulators keep repeating.

The first rule comes from the CNMV: before investing in crypto-assets, make sure you can afford to lose all of it. With small-cap altcoins that's not a figure of speech. The second is the math of drawdowns, which is unforgiving:

If it falls…To get back to where you started it has to rise…
20%25%
50%100%
80%400%
90%900%
Plain arithmetic: after a fall, the same percentage gain no longer gets you back to the start.

That's why position size matters more than getting the ranking right. If you split €1,000 equally across five altcoins and one goes to zero, you lose €200 and you're still standing. If all five fall at once, though, spreading out won't have protected you much: diversifying within the same asset type reduces the risk of one specific project, not the risk of the whole market.

A few ideas you can apply without anyone handing you numbers: keep money you'll need in the short term separate from what you invest; decide in advance the most you'll put into small projects; buy in gradually instead of all at once, which is what the bitcoin DCA guide explains; and keep a written exit plan. The risk management guide walks through it with examples.

As for timing, the Short on the best moments to buy bitcoin sums up the three references he uses: market cycles, Fibonacci zones and moving averages. They're technical analysis tools, not clocks. They help you have a plan, not guess the bottom.

How to get the most out of this section

An order that works: start with the general top 5 to get the map; then the worst-coins video, to train your eye on red flags; then the two narrower ones, altcoins and AI; and finally the bank video, with the checklist already in your head. When a name catches your interest, look it up in the Entiende Cripto series before buying anything, and if you live in Spain or elsewhere in the EU, only buy on an authorized platform.

If this helped, subscribe to the channel so you don't miss the next breakdowns. And when a new ranking comes out, from the channel or anyone else, run it through the same eight filters. It's the cheapest way there is to avoid buying hype.

FAQ /

Frequently asked questions

What is the best cryptocurrency to invest in for 2026?

There's no answer that works for everyone. It depends on your time horizon, how much you can lose without it changing your life and what you already own. The channel's rankings explain their criteria (fundamentals, real usage, institutional backing) and their risks; use them as a starting point for research, not as a buy order. This is not financial advice.

Which cryptocurrency does Standard Chartered say could rise 25x?

Chainlink (LINK). In a note dated August 10, 2026, the bank set a $200 target for the end of 2030, when LINK was trading around $8. The forecast rests on the growth of tokenization and DeFi, and the bank itself lists risks: slower tokenization, competition and technical failures. It's a forecast, not a guarantee.

How can I tell if a cryptocurrency is a scam?

Be wary of guaranteed returns, pressure to hurry, teams that won't show their faces and aggressive promotion on social media or in private messages. If you live in Spain or elsewhere in the EU, check that the platform appears in the CNMV or ESMA registers, and read the white paper. If something promises a lot and explains little, you have your answer.

What are token unlocks and why do they matter?

They're dates when previously locked tokens (usually the team's and early investors') become sellable. If a large share of the total supply isn't circulating yet, those unlocks can add selling pressure for months or years. Before buying, compare the current market cap with the fully diluted value and check the unlock schedule.

Are AI cryptocurrencies worth investing in?

Some have real products and others only the label. In his video, Cripto Adicto estimates there are more than 900 coins calling themselves AI and that 95% of them are worthless. Ask what the token does inside the product, who pays to use it and what would happen if AI stopped being fashionable.

How many cryptocurrencies should I hold?

There's no magic number. Owning twenty altcoins doesn't diversify you if they all fall together; owning a few you understand well is usually easier to manage. What matters is the size of each position, so that a total loss on a small project doesn't sink you. Spain's CNMV asks investors to check they can bear a total loss before investing.
